If you want a nice semi-healthy snack, and you like the apple/cinnamon combo, you need to try this. We had extra apples a couple of weeks ago and we were going on a 3hour drive to my parents’ house, so I decided it was time to make something to bite during the trip.
This is really easy. All you need is apples, cinnamon and sugar.
There isn’t really the perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar, you will have to adjust it to the sweetness of the apples you’re using and to your own taste. We love cinnamon so we drenched them in it. =) And we’re not as keen on sugar, so we used just a little bit. But it’s up to you, really.
Start by pre-heating the oven to 375F (190ºC).
Wash the apples very carefully and then slice them (1/4 inch slices). If they’re not all the same size, it’s fine, don’t stress. But in my opinion, this thickness gives them the perfect crispiness. =) You can also use a mandolin slicer and make them thinner, but I like them a bit thicker. Again, your choice. You can also core the apples before slicing them, but that’s way too much work 😛 And they look very cute as is, so I just seed them.
Place the slices on a baking sheet (I also used parchment paper to make it easier to clean up).
Drizzle cinnamon and sugar on both sides of the slices.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and let the slices bake for around one hour. When ready, remove them from the oven, flip them, return them to the oven and turn it off. Let the slices cool completely inside the oven. This will make them crisp. =)
And now you can enjoy them!
If stored in an airtight container, they will last quite a while, but will lose a bit of that crispiness. But, judging from our experience, they won’t need to be kept for that long. =) They’re delicious!
I’ll see you tomorrow!
