After watching Zero Dark Thirty, these are my thoughts.
This movie recalled the actions that led to the capture and death of Osama Bin Laden. Specifically the actions of one CIA agent. One extremely intelligent, confident and brave woman.
I won’t ramble on it but how cool was that the one that fought inside the agency and eventually found OBL was a woman?
The movie itself has a huge emotional charge. From the start, when they remind us and show us some tapes of the victims of the 9/11 attacks, to the torture scenes, to some of the deaths they show, to the final moment when they find and kill OBL. And specially, to what was one of the moments of the movie to me: when the CIA agent, portrayed by Jessica Chastain, walks to the body bag and identifies him to what we can tell is the US President on the satellite phone call.
I realize that this movie is based on reports and that some of it may not have been just like they’re telling. But I believe it was as close as it can get. And I appreciate all the work of the US government agents. They help make the world a safer place. And most of the times they don’t have public recognition, for their own safety.
Regarding the actors, I hope Jessica Chastain win the Actress in a Leading Role Oscar. What an amazing performance! They’re also nominated in 4 more categories: Editing, Sound Editing, Writing and Picture of the Year. I would have nominated Kathryn Bigelow for the Directing Award, but I guess the Academy had their eyes on some specific Directors out there in 2012.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you should. I really recommend it.
