October is US’ National Anti-Bullying Month: Jennifer Livingston and a golden moment on TV.

First of all, watch this video. It’s only 4 minutes and 21 seconds.

In the last days of September, Jennifer Livingston, a WKBT News 8 anchor, received a letter from a disgruntled viewer which she read aloud on TV on October 2.

The video is pretty self-explanatory. I won’t post the name of the viewer, because I think he only wants attention. At least, I hope that was his point. Because if not, that was pure bullying and a conscient choice to hurt someone.

I had never heard of Jennifer or her TV station. I live in Portugal, so I don’t know every local channels in the States. But now, I have the highest regard of her as a person. Her response was perfect. It is unbelievable that an adult does this. Not a suitable example because she’s overweight? Are you kidding?

Bullying is really a problem and it starts in the family. As Jennifer says, if children hear their parents bully or call someone fat, they will do that to another kid. That’s how kids learn – by example. And parents are the first in line in this chain of life education.

She ended her message with a quote I won’t forget: “The cruel words of one are nothing compared to the shouts of many.”

Have a nice day everyone. And as Ellen says, “be kind to one another”.
