My newest addiction: Cold Brewed Coffee! Easy how-to with photos inside ;)


I love coffee. I do. When I was working full time, I drank 3-4 espressos every day. Not only because of the caffeine, obviously, but also because I love how it tastes. I drink my coffee black, no sugar, and only add a bit of skim milk {or soy milk} if I used a stovetop brewer.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been loving cold brewed coffee. I always have it in the fridge, and since I started making it, I’ve only had one espresso from our machine – and it was only because I had run out of the cold one. Not only it’s cheaper than our coffee pods, but it tastes awesome. And it’s really simple to make.

I have now perfected the ratio for my taste, but I can tell you that this is really good if you like a strong coffee. Don’t be fooled by the smooth flavor… it is really strong – and it will keep you awake at night if you’re having it in the last afternoon or evening… I know that for a fact… oops! 😛

So, you’ll need:


– glass pitcher with 4 cups of water – about 960ml;
– 1/3 cup of strong ground coffee – I’m currently using a Portuguese brand called Sical, a very good coffee that you should try (available here);
– spoon, plastic wrap, coffee filters, clean pitcher to store the filtered coffee.

And this is how it’s done.

Mix the coffee in the water and cover with plastic wrap.


Place in the fridge, somewhere where it can be still, for at least 12 hours. I’ve tried less time and it wasn’t as nice. =)


After the brewing time, it’s filtering time. I don’t have a fancy filter and this process takes a while – about 20 minutes – so I place the filter on top of a strainer and that allows me to do something else while all the filtering is going on.


And after all coffee is filtered, all you need is to have it the way you prefer. I’ve been loving with either skim or soy milk and I totally recommend that you try this! =) Look how pretty that coffee looks!



I’m pretty sure this will also taste great hot in the cold weather, but I’ll keep you posted on that! 😉 Have a great week everyone!

    Stopping in from TGIF Link Party. I love coffee! Because I have a hard time sleeping at night, I have cut down on my caffeine, so I generally have one cup of caffeinated coffee a day and the rest is decaf. I love the taste.
    To cut down on calories, I have been using one creamer tub and skim milk lately. Not too bad. Thanks for the post. I’ll try it sometime.
