Today’s movie review is on the latest Michael Bay movie, Pain & Gain.
This is a movie based on a true story. IMDb describes the story as: “A trio of bodybuilders in Florida get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.“
By watching the trailer you can already see that is going to be some sort of a comedy. But I never thought it would be so stupid. I really like the cast, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie are usually great at whichever kind of movie they’re in. But this movie is a huge flop for me.
Yes, it has action. Yes, it’s a great production all around. But, being that this was supposed to be telling a story, they way they did it shouted mocking. The story like they tell it, is so stupid and unbelievable that you can only laugh. There is no way that happened in real life.
Immediately after the movie ended, I browsed online and found several newspaper articles, from renowned newspapers, with interviews of the actual victim of the crime portrayed in the movie, and he says that the screenplay writers didn’t talk to him and that the movie is very loosely based on what happened.
Do I regret watching it? Well, no. I still like the actors and I like keeping up with them. But it’s not a good one. I’m sorry Michael Bay, but you could have done it differently. It was a mockage of what was a very serious situation. I didn’t like it, so I don’t recommend it.
Have a great weekend!
