Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery

The Diversity Immigrant Visa program is a United States congressionally mandated lottery program for receiving a United States Permanent Resident Card. It is also known as the Green Card Lottery.

I’ve submitted for this lottery for the past five or six years, which means that every year, around October/November we submit the info and then check the results on May 1 of the following year. This year, we had 4 applications made within my close family.

Today, May 1st, the website where we can check for the results only became available at around 6pm (local time) and once again, we saw the four-word expression that we hate: “HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED”.

Although we know it’s still a lottery, and we have to be really lucky to win a spot on just 55000 selected applicants, we’re still hopeful, every year, that we’ll see a different kind of message. This year, the negative response hit me hard. Maybe because I’m unemployed, maybe because I wanted it so bad…

Well… we always have next year, right? Still, not feeling the love from the luck fairy…
