So, to start this post, I’m gonna transcript the news that inspired me (source: People.com)
They’re going for an even 20!
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, are expecting their 20th child this spring.
“We are so excited,” says Michelle, 45, who is now about three-and-a-half months into her pregnancy and due in April. “I feel good. I am past the sickness stage now.”
The Tontitown, Ark., couple, who are parents to children Joshua, 23 (who is married to Anna, 23 and has two children, Mackynzie, 2 and Michael, 4 months), twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3, weathered the medical emergency of their youngest daughter, Josie’s birth on Dec. 10, 2009.
She was born following Michelle’s preeclampsia diagnosis at a mere 25 weeks, weighing only 1lb., 6 oz.
Josie’s medical drama – and Michelle’s own fight for survival – was documented throughout their TV series. Josie will turn 2 in December and is developing normally, without any longterm effects from her premature birth.
“It is a miracle. Josie is the most energetic, busy little almost-2-year-old,” says Michelle. “She is short, and yet she can keep up with the big girls and she thinks she is just as big as they are. We are amazed at what she can do.”

As I already said, I work in Special Education and my Masters Degree is related to Preemies. Let me say one thing: that baby Josie even survived was a miracle. But even if I hadn’t known anything about her story, just by looking at her I can see clearly that that is a little girl with developmental issues.
This mother of 19, with the last one being a 25 weeks preemie, and 45 years old, bothers me. Not only because she “excuses” her choice with the right to choose life and her religion, but because she is just thinking about her! There’s a really big chance she’s gonna have preeclampsia again. And there’s a big chance she’s gonna have another preemie or something worse happening! They really should start thinking about the babies, instead of them. I’m all for having kids and you should have as many as you can and want. But 20? And I heard them saying that if this pregnancy goes well, they’re thinking about a 21st! OH MY GOD!
I don’t want to say they’re doing this for the show or to beat some sort of record. But the people surrounding them, at least, should be helping and advising them, which I don’t think they are.. She should start thinking that she has a lot of health factors that constitute real risks and that she’s putting her health in jeopardy every time she gets pregnant. She’s 45, a lot of women have kids in their 40’s now, but not a lot of them had already 19 babies. I’m just thinking that between adding to their brood, I’m sure the rest of the family would prefer to have their mom around. And she is putting that in jeopardy.
I’m sorry, but this really bothers me. I just hope this 20th kid is born in perfect health.
